Reimagined Recycling is seeking new board members
Are you passionate about reducing plastic waste on a local level? Do you believe that by engaging in creative, locally-focused, community-based solutions, we can make meaningful change? If so, support Reimagined Recycling’s mission by joining our board!
Organizational overview
Mission: To make material sustainability and recycling transparent and accessible through art, craft, and education and to create a local recycling system that is easy to understand and to promote more sustainable living and a healthy environment.
Vision: We envision a world where plastic consumption and waste is greatly reduced and that people can actively reimagine their waste. Reimagined Recycling rethinks plastic recycling in Pittsburgh by creating a transparent system of sorting, shredding, and recrafting #5 plastics on a local level. Our work includes direct material repurposing recycled #5 plastic material into new products and promoting educational programs to the community.
Board Responsibilities and Expectations:
Purpose: To advise, oversee policy and direction, and assist with the leadership and general promotion of Reimagined Recycling so as to support the organization's mission and needs.
Term: Board members serve a two-year term with the option to renew.
Meetings: The Board meets, at minimum, 6 times a year. Typically we meet every other month and every month for committee meetings. Board members are expected to attend meetings on a regular basis and to be prepared to address the issues under consideration.
Committees: Board operation committees may be created under the direction of the Board, as-needed, which convene monthly via conference calls or meetings.
Leadership Responsibility: The Board establishes organization policy and works alongside staff to set the strategic direction of Reimagined Recycling. Board members are asked to be familiar with the by-laws, and carefully read the board minutes, financial statements and other pertinent board materials. They are asked to be active participants in the life of the organization by attending board functions and other Reimagined Recycling events and by being actively involved in at least one development activity each year.
Public Ambassadors: Board members are expected to believe in, understand, and support the work of Reimagined Recycling. Board members are also asked to serve as goodwill ambassadors in the community. Through individual board members' efforts, we will expand Reimagined Recycling's network through their friends, relatives and colleagues who can help meet needs in such areas as fundraising, public relations, community engagement, and education.
Board Member Giving: Board members are expected to participate according to ability. This can be financial, fund-raising, community outreach, and/or professional advice.
